Who Are You?
A friend was encouraging me recently and she reminded me of a truth I’ve read dozens of times. “You are God’s masterpiece,” she said. For those who are in Christ–those who have surrendered their life to the Lordship of Christ and asked for His sacrifice on the cross to cleanse them from all sin–this is true about us.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Ephesians 2:10 NLT
The immediate response welling up in me when she spoke these words was, “NO. How can that be? I sure don’t FEEL that way!”
How many times are we completely derailed and deceived into believing that our feelings are truth? That our emotions are gospel and worthy of blind obedience? Far too many times the enemy convinces us that emotions can and should steer the train of our life, and all too often we do not realize the error of this thought until we are off in a ditch. TRUTH ought to steer us–the Truth of God’s Word and the Truth of what He says about who were are in Christ. That is the only foundation that will stabilize us, direct us into the blessings He has for us, and set us free from the spiritual bondage that nips at all of our ankles.
Look at these other truths about who you (as a Christ-follower) are in Him:
You are holy and without blame
You are God’s child
You are set free (by God’s grace)
You are wonderfully made
You are God’s friend
You are a new creation
You are loved by God
You are promised
You have the mind of Christ
You are the light of the world
You are branches of the true vine
You are the body of Christ
You are called by name
You have hope
You are the apple of his eye
That is the truth, not subject to feelings. Stand on it! Think about what a difference in your life it could make if you did. And for those in the organizations we serve, down and out and feeling hopeless, imagine how freeing it could be for them to discover these biblical truths and how, through a relationship with Christ, they too can be called children of God!
Even when we think we are a mess, we are still God’s masterpiece. We are just a beautiful mess, made perfectly imperfect by Him.
